| Salsa Lady's Salsa Philosophy |
|
There is no such word as "mistake" in Salsa Lady's world. There are only different ways of moving, and some are more effective and elegant than others. The more you practice, the more conscious you will be about what works when it comes to your dancing style, the rhythm and your dancing partner. Many of us walk around with an "invisible whip" in our hand that we use on ourselves when we think we make a "mistake". If you have an "invisible whip", throw it away or burn it. It will never give you joy of dancing, enthusiasm or positive energy. When you develop as a dancer, other salseros will give you compliments. When you learn to look at the compliments as little gifts, you can enjoy them when you receive them, and you can take them out and "open" them whenever you like. For instance, you may want to "open" one of them when you're facing a challenge on the dance floor and need a little extra energy. If you want to dance Salsa, you will not be stopped by your age, cultural background, religion or political views. Salsa is for everyone, and its mission is to give increased joy of life and dancing to everyone who takes part in it. Human beings have always danced to express joy, hope, and creativity. Our ancestors have danced for millennia, and dancing is natural for us. Before they have even tried, many say that they can't dance. But everyone can dance if they come to the dance with optimism, joy and a willingness to work. The dance gives us access to unknown resources, creativity and an endless source of joy. You will enjoy the Salsa even more when you follow the music and move freely and relaxed with the rhythm, compared to when you force yourself to remember a certain move or combination. Some get frustrated when they don't remember perfectly, but it's important to keep in mind that different music requires different movements, intensity and speed. Let the rhythm be your guide. Without rhythm, there's no Salsa! Your way of dancing is unique. You have experiences and a body shape that no one else has! I always recommend to my students that they try not to copy other dancers, but rather develop a style of their own. When you dance in a way that's natural for you, you will feel even better on the dance floor. There are no rules about the correct way to express your femininity. It is important to support others who want to enjoy Salsa, especially beginners. When you encourage other salseros, you help develop the Salsa world and ensure that others may also take part in this fantastic dance that makes us laugh, smile and be social. If someone asks you to share of your experience, give them some ideas and impulses to keep developing. Salsa is the perfect counter-balance to obligations and to-do-lists. When you dance, it's almost impossible to think of that bill you should have paid, the dishes you should have washed or the boardroom minutes you should have finished. Use the Salsa to actively to get a break from your daily obligations, a break that you can use to fill up with energy and joy in the company of other people. In our daily lives it can be difficult to feel feminine and ladylike, like when you're on your way home with two heavy grocery bags in each hand. Keep in mind that femininity comes from within. High heeled shoes and perfect makeup can help us feel like real ladies, but the truth is that being feminine is a feeling that has its source deep inside us. Salsa is ideally suited for using 100 percent of your feminine side. In Salsa, the man dances in a masculine way, while the woman usually uses elegant arm movements, sensual hip movements and classy footwork. The dance floor is a safe place to live out and use your feminine side. Salsa dancing gives you a healthy and strong body, especially where balance, stamina, strength, coordination and flexibility are concerned. By eating a healthy and varied diet, you will strengthen the organs of the body and help them recover after intense exercise. It will also give you more energy and help you avoid injuries. It has been scientifically proven that dance, laughter and positive thinking have a health promoting effect. When we dance, the "wellbeing hormones" dopamine, serotonin and endorphine are released, and they have a stimulating, joy enhancing and pain reducing effect on the body and the soul. By dancing we can stay healthy, reduse the stress level and create more excess energy to face a busy week. Dance also helps you get in touch with yourself, release more of your potential and create a basis for positive relations and constructive cooperation. |
